Cessna 180 For Sale

The Cessna 180 Skywagon is a four seat, single engine, high wing tailwheel aircraft manufactured by Cessna from 1953 to 1981. A total of 6,193 were built, and the type remains highly sought after for bush flying, backcountry operations, and utility work where its rugged construction and short field performance excel.

Powered by a Continental O-470 producing 230 horsepower (later models), the Cessna 180 cruises at approximately 140 knots with a useful load of around 1,100 pounds. Its conventional landing gear and relatively high ground clearance make it well suited to unimproved strips, gravel bars, and rough terrain operations.

Variants and History

The 180 was Cessna's first high performance single and served as the basis for the tricycle gear Cessna 182 Skylane and the larger Cessna 185 Skywagon. Early models from 1953 used the 225 hp Continental O-470-A, while later versions from 1964 onwards received the more powerful 230 hp O-470-R/U engines. The model designations progressed from 180 through 180A to 180K, with incremental improvements to propeller, cowling, and systems throughout the production run.

Buying a Pre Owned Cessna 180

The Cessna 180 has a strong following in the backcountry and bush flying community, which supports firm used values. Key inspection areas include the fuselage belly for corrosion, particularly on aircraft operated on floats or from salt water environments. Wing strut attach points and the tailwheel steering mechanism should be carefully examined. Many 180s have been modified with STOL kits, extended range fuel tanks, and bush wheels or floats, all of which affect value and mission capability.
